Kevin Ryan is entering his fifth year as the sole middle and high school counselor at Abington Friends School. Prior to AFS, Kevin worked briefly at the Woodlynde School as their lower school counselor. Kevin is a graduate of Temple University’s Counseling Psychology program, focusing his study on becoming a PA certified school counselor. In 2018, he went back to this program to take additional clinical counseling courses to pursue a path towards licensure. Before obtaining his master’s degree in counseling psychology, Kevin worked at local non profits as a case manager serving at-risk populations in the Philadelphia area.
Kevin is passionate about his work with adolescents and recognizes the importance of communication between different stakeholders in a child’s life. In his role as a school counselor, Kevin regularly collaborates with outside therapists and other support personnel. He enjoys taking a team approach to understanding and helping young people. Kevin has spent a great deal of his time in the school setting working with students who exhibit symptoms of anxiety and depression. He utilizes evidence based approaches to therapy including DBT, Mindfulness and CBT.
